WELCOME TO THE RAINY SEASON ! It is official as of June 12 , the waters have been pouring in P.V. but, that does not stop the locals from working outdoors ? Any one living in tropical climates know this season brings high tempetures and humidity and of couse the rains. The goodnews is , it mainly rains late afternoon or in the evenings very Seldom in mid-day.Rains vary from profusely heavy flow ,to nice and mellow drizzle ( this type of rain is very pleasant for jogging or walking your dog ,but avoid wearing any white see-through clothing) to the get the heck inside a shelter or on a high hill because all the waters from the abyss are coming at you and floods are evident every where. Downtown Vallarta gets flooded within minutes . Cars stop running , and people get stranded within the city blocks as if they where individual islands . If you ever want to go to Venice ,Italy but, deep down you really want to visit a tropical paradise , well look no further!Puerto Vallarta is the place for you! During this time of the year of course.
Vallarta is also well knowed for it's great Adventure tours. However most of it's tourist come in the winter months (Vallarta's dry season) . Not a single drop of precipitation is seen during this time of the year until late late spring. Therefore most people completly miss this wet event. The tours that take place during this time of the year are rather excentric. Lets take Vallartas' premire tour company for example : Vallarta Adventures . Whether its swimming with the dolphins , or sailing you are doing, "the show must goes on" (unless of course severe thunderstorms or hurricanes are at bay) .The people who make this even possible are truly passionate about their jobs ! They have to be ! Those poor tour guides get drenched ,muddy , sweaty and exposed themselfs to slippery , hazardous enviroments. The Sierra Madre Excursion tour guides still give out all the information standing in the tropical forest while getting the chiness water torture tretment. Same goes for the Canopy and Outdoor tours (zipline and rappeling tours). However when you are ziping from one side to another at about 15-25 mph .The rain feels like small pelets or bibis hiting you on the face and even distorting your vision at times (God is it ever fun!).
Last week I attented the Rhythm of the Night tour which happens to be the place I got inspired to write this article . The tour started out fine ,however about half way there right on cue 7:30 it starts to rain while we were on the boat to Caletas but , do you think we got wet ? Not at all the crew had us on the bottom deck with side and frontal tarp or waterproofed canvas down shielding us from the heavy rains. The rain slowed down to about a light drizzel about the time we arrived. Everyone was placed in comfortable huts with no walls to watch the scenery and listen to the relaxing sound of the rain drops as we dine . Every two guests were handed an umbrella so by the time we were done with our desert we were ready for the show. The show itself was great but , what made it so Espectacular was the fact that it was all done with water pouring on the performers not once did any one slip, slide, or lose their equilibrium while performing their acrobatics and ballet . The visitors awed under their individual umbrellas as water puored and the dancers keep their balance as if it to was part of the play. The words "rain men" came to me at that moment as I felt the drips of cool water run down my exposed arms (most of my body was under neath the umbrella). Even the fire from the torches seem to cooperate giving way to the drops of water without going out itself.
Finally the evening closed with a nice boat ride back . Followed by the crews none stop entertainment. Most of the time however I spend reminiscing on the performance dancers. How they had pulled it of so well dancing not just among themselfs but , with nature that night . I thought about all the other tours and their guides , they most all come to the consensus that rain like it or not is still part of nature and hence part of the life style here in Vallarta . So please stop asking is it going to rain during the tour today? or next week ? or two months from now?Just suck it up and enjoy the rainbows as you dry off.
