RAIN MEN
WELCOME TO THE RAINY SEASON ! It is official as of June 12 , the waters have been pouring in P.V. but, that does not stop the locals from working outdoors ? Any one living in tropical climates know this season brings high tempetures and humidity and of couse the rains. The goodnews is , it mainly rains late afternoon or in the evenings very Seldom in mid-day.Rains vary from profusely heavy flow ,to nice and mellow drizzle ( this type of rain is very pleasant for jogging or walking your dog ,but avoid wearing any white see-through clothing) to the get the heck inside a shelter or on a high hill because all the waters from the abyss are coming at you and floods are evident every where. Downtown Vallarta gets flooded within minutes . Cars stop running , and people get stranded within the city blocks as if they where individual islands . If you ever want to go to Venice ,Italy but, deep down you really want to visit a tropical paradise , well look no further!Puerto Vallarta is the place for you! During this time of the year of course.
Vallarta is also well knowed for it's great Adventure tours. However most of it's tourist come in the winter months (Vallarta's dry season) . Not a single drop of precipitation is seen during this time of the year until late late spring. Therefore most people completly miss this wet event. The tours that take place during this time of the year are rather excentric. Lets take Vallartas' premire tour company for example : Vallarta Adventures . Whether its swimming with the dolphins , or sailing you are doing, "the show must goes on" (unless of course severe thunderstorms or hurricanes are at bay) .The people who make this even possible are truly passionate about their jobs ! They have to be ! Those poor tour guides get drenched ,muddy , sweaty and exposed themselfs to slippery , hazardous enviroments. The Sierra Madre Excursion tour guides still give out all the information standing in the tropical forest while getting the chiness water torture tretment. Same goes for the Canopy and Outdoor tours (zipline and rappeling tours). However when you are ziping from one side to another at about 15-25 mph .The rain feels like small pelets or bibis hiting you on the face and even distorting your vision at times (God is it ever fun!).
Last week I attented the Rhythm of the Night tour which happens to be the place I got inspired to write this article . The tour started out fine ,however about half way there right on cue 7:30 it starts to rain while we were on the boat to Caletas but , do you think we got wet ? Not at all the crew had us on the bottom deck with side and frontal tarp or waterproofed canvas down shielding us from the heavy rains. The rain slowed down to about a light drizzel about the time we arrived. Everyone was placed in comfortable huts with no walls to watch the scenery and listen to the relaxing sound of the rain drops as we dine . Every two guests were handed an umbrella so by the time we were done with our desert we were ready for the show. The show itself was great but , what made it so Espectacular was the fact that it was all done with water pouring on the performers not once did any one slip, slide, or lose their equilibrium while performing their acrobatics and ballet . The visitors awed under their individual umbrellas as water puored and the dancers keep their balance as if it to was part of the play. The words "rain men" came to me at that moment as I felt the drips of cool water run down my exposed arms (most of my body was under neath the umbrella). Even the fire from the torches seem to cooperate giving way to the drops of water without going out itself.
Finally the evening closed with a nice boat ride back . Followed by the crews none stop entertainment. Most of the time however I spend reminiscing on the performance dancers. How they had pulled it of so well dancing not just among themselfs but , with nature that night . I thought about all the other tours and their guides , they most all come to the consensus that rain like it or not is still part of nature and hence part of the life style here in Vallarta . So please stop asking is it going to rain during the tour today? or next week ? or two months from now?Just suck it up and enjoy the rainbows as you dry off.

Fish Tales
well it feels like for ever since I wrote any thing on my blog . To busy doing other things in P.V. I was invited to go fishing and catch shrimp with the locals on river where crocodiles and cayman lurk. The location the Ameca River we started on the mouth of the river by the beach and then worked our way up stream.Puerto Vallarta started as a small fishing village , so fishing as always been a way of life here. Now a days you will find sport fishin competitions every year where big size marlin , sail fish , are the goal the get a money price ! mediocre fishermen are happy catching dorados , red snappers, rooster fish in a good day , but the small time mainly poor fisher men is the one that caught my attention his lack of fishing rod methods really are intriguing. They still use regular fishing thread, sinkers, hook and bait. The thread is wraped around either a soda bottle or some other type of large ring cylindrical object. Now that's what I call sport fishing! It is very tricky to learn though ,but once you get the hang of it it is very cool . As luck would have it I only caught two crabs in one hour. Trust me it is an efficient method I saw a guy next to me catch a manta ray.!
The shrimp fishing was done more up stream near swamps and it was so muddy I could not risk taking my camara or any other thing that might get damage.Within 20 minutes we had at least a pound of shrimp. We used the old fashion net system. It too (the net) as a way to be handled . You don't just trow it in the water hope something dumb enough craws or swims in . If you are looking for an alternative form of fishing you should give any of this techniques a try .

about the author(me)
born in a small village in central Mexico know as MEXICO CITY . Famous for it' aztec ruins ,history, and culture and yet, infamous for it's "crime rate".(come on it's a 30 mil.+ population some one is bound not to get along).Sadly you will always have crime regardless of were you go. The city is also know for it's smog and seismal activity like San Francisco. In fact it was such an earthquake in 85 that drove my family away I was 6 years old at the time.My mother remarried a man from the U.S. who was there on a busyness trip .Changing our way of life and rewriting my families future...to be continued.

"Suffering an economic flu"

Finally good news ! Last Saturday Carnival cruise line announced that it will restart it's visits to the mexican ports , shortly after the U.S. government gave the approval and removed the safety alert. That is very good news since 95% of P.V.'s economy relies on tourism alone. The cruse ships along with planes and buses cancelled their arrival to the Mexican coasts after the fear of an "epidemic influenza " was at bay. Despite the fact that the WHO confirmed of a"no pending danger if entering the country".The local govenment and state are helping both the unemployed and working on strategies to boost the economy . Where is the federal government in all this? They are more focused on the cancun side , perhaps because most of the top govenment officials' homes are situated there. What ever the reason not even a word of moral support as been mentioned. Times like this makes Puerto Vallarta , really appreciate the things that made it what it as become. No it is not it's golden sand beaches , or its luxurious resorts ,heart warming restaurants , or even it's fantastic array of family orientated adventure tours. For those of you still guessing I tell you ... I regarded as an approval of what I am saying , IT IS THE NON-STOP-FLOW- OF- WONDERFUL- VISITORS -YEAR- AFTER- YEAR !

the non-flu tourist-town
Another day goes by in the country and town where time stands still especially for those in the entertainment busyness . Whether it's a futbol (soccer ) game , or a rock concert the attendance is significantly low . An all out scare over a so called epidemic , got everyone acting like it's the black plague in the dark ages that killed nearly half the people of western Europe . Welcome to the 21st century where people still act like its 1918 . The economy stinks, now this flu to top it off ! The whole thing stinks , so much that every one is comming up with their own conclusions . Conspiracy theories, this tentative insights are more common on the internet. What ever it may be it is affecting us all and here in Puerto Vallarta , like in Cancun and many other tourist hot spots, is been a hard impact on our economy to the point job loss as more than tripled . Resorts are almost crippled. All this ! and yet, not ONE case of either deads from the flu or even flu reports in P.V..Tourism is hurting thanks to the medias'hunger for more ratings . This is of coure my humbled opinion...
